Founder's Note
In 2015, the world watched in heartbreak as a sea turtle bled helplessly while two marine biologists carefully pulled a 4-inch plastic straw from its nostril. The plastic had lodged deep into the turtle’s nasal cavity, reaching down to its throat, making it difficult to breathe, smell, eat, and even navigate the ocean.
More than 6 million people have seen that disturbing 8-minute video. For many, it was shocking. For me, it was life-changing when I saw it in 2023.
That was the moment when I realised how something as small and ordinary as a straw could become a weapon against nature. From that day forward, I couldn’t look at plastic the same way again. I minimised using single-use plastics, often carried my own reusable containers, and made sure every bit of waste I generated ended up in the proper recycling bin.
As I became more conscious, I began researching alternatives, and what I discovered was both inspiring and frustrating
In Bangladesh, we have an abundance of natural resources and skilled craftsmen capable of creating eco-friendly, biodegradable products from leaves, jute, cane, grass, and bamboo. Yet, due to lack of awareness and availability in cities, people still turn to plastic.
At the same time, I noticed through documentaries that in many other countries, people want to live sustainably, but they struggle to source alternatives to plastics.
As they don’t have easy access to raw materials, artisans, or low-cost manufacturing systems that can produce biodegradable goods at scale.
That’s when I realised the missing link wasn’t just awareness; it was access.
And thus, The Galaxy Sourcing was born. A dynamic platform to offer biodegradable, eco-friendly alternatives which have a gentle aftereffect on the earth. The vision that drives us is a world where life, above and beneath the surface, is resilient and harmonious.
